Have us clear hazardous areas of dead fall and dead standing, along with creating fire breaks, to protect you and your home from wildfire.

Wildfire risk is real and rising across the Wasatch Back, and since January 2026 it is also a regulatory matter.

We assess your property's fuel load, build defensible space around structures, remove dead standing and dead-fall, and limb up trees to break the ladder-fuel path that turns a ground fire into a crown fire.

For HOAs and large parcels we coordinate with local fire authorities and produce documentation a board can file.

The work is the same work we have always done; what changed is that there is now a code, a fee, and an assessment attached to it.

How the job runs

We walk the property and assess fuel load by zone, working outward from the structure rather than inward from the property line.
The first five feet get addressed first. It is the cheapest work on the list and it does more for structure survival than anything else.
Ladder fuels come out next — the low limbs and understory that let a ground fire reach the canopy.
Crown spacing work follows, thinning to the ten-foot separation the code calls for.
Slash is chipped on site or hauled, and you get written documentation of what was done, by zone.

What drives the price

We quote on site, in writing, after walking the work with you. These are the variables that move the number:

Acreage inside each defensible-space zone, not total parcel size
Current fuel load and how long since the last treatment
Slope, which drives both hand-work and how much clearance is needed
Species mix — Gambel oak resprouts and needs recurring management, conifer thinning does not
Volume of slash generated and how it gets processed

On a Wasatch Back property

This is the service where local knowledge changes the job. Utah's HB 48 took effect 1 January 2026, bringing a statewide high-risk map, lot-level triage assessments, and risk-based fees that move from flat to assessment-driven in 2028 — so work done now affects what you pay later. On top of that, every jurisdiction here sets its own boundary. Park City has had its own code since June 2020, triggering on remodels over $50,000. Heber's map expanded in 2026. Midway passed Ordinance 2026-06 and declined the state map, though the state map still applies. We work to whichever rules actually govern your parcel.

Questions we get asked

Is defensible space mandatory now?: For properties inside the mapped high-risk boundary, HB 48 brought assessments and risk-based fees as of January 2026. Separately, your own city or county sets its own WUI boundary, and the two are different determinations. Check both.
Will this lower my insurance?: Possibly, but the bigger issue in Utah right now is non-renewal rather than premium. Documented mitigation is an argument you can make at renewal that your neighbours cannot.
Do I have to remove all my trees?: No, and any contractor who says so is selling you something. The requirement is spacing and ladder-fuel reduction, not clearing. Mature Douglas-fir and ponderosa are usually keepers; junipers against the house are usually not.
What about trees my HOA protects?: Park City's code anticipates that conflict. A 2023 ordinance prioritises preserving Significant Vegetation but allows removal or replacement where needed to comply with Firewise and defensible-space requirements. Bring the specific requirement to Planning in writing.
Can you document the work for a board or an insurer?: Yes. Itemised, by zone, in writing. That document is what makes a Firewise annual report or an insurance conversation straightforward.
