How the job runs

An assessment first: what the tree is, what it threatens, and whether removal is genuinely the right answer.
We write the quote with the method in it — fell in place, sectional dismantle, or crane assist — because the method is most of the price.
Drop zones and rigging points get set, and anything that can be damaged gets protected or moved.
The tree comes down in whatever increments the surroundings allow.
Wood is cut and stacked, chipped, or hauled, and the site is raked clean. Stump grinding happens the same visit where it is in scope.

What drives the price

We quote on site, in writing, after walking the work with you. These are the variables that move the number:

Height and trunk diameter, which drive the weight that has to be controlled
What is underneath — open meadow is a fraction of the cost of a tree over a roof line
Access for a bucket truck or chipper, which steep Park City driveways often rule out
Whether the tree is sound or decayed; a compromised tree cannot be climbed and needs different, costlier methods
Proximity to power lines, which may require the utility to de-energise first
Whether stump grinding and haul-off are included

On a Wasatch Back property

Two local constraints come up on nearly every job. Access is the first: a lot of Wasatch Back driveways are too steep or too narrow for a bucket truck, which pushes the work to climbing and rigging and changes the price. The second is approval. Many subdivisions here require architectural review before removing anything over a set diameter, and in Park City the Land Management Code defines Significant Vegetation starting at six inches, so permitted projects can carry replanting obligations. We provide the written assessment and line-item estimate those committees ask for.

Do I need HOA approval before removing a tree?: Often yes, and it is a separate process from anything the city requires. Many Wasatch Back covenants require architectural review for removals above a set trunk diameter, and approval is expected before work starts rather than after.

Will my insurance pay for it?: Generally not for preventative removal. Standard policies cover removal after a tree damages a covered structure, usually capped around $500 to $1,000 per tree. Can you remove a tree near a power line?: Not within ten feet of an energised conductor; that is line-clearance work. The usual solution is simpler than people expect — Rocky Mountain Power will provide a free temporary service disconnect so a normal crew can work safely.
Is the stump included?: Only if the quote says so. Grinding on the same visit is cheaper than bringing the machine back, so it is worth deciding up front.
